The first 2 days of the 2nd test between England & West Indies saw Jofra Archer being dropped due to his own folly during covid 19 & one got to see the English opener Dom Sibley ground the West Indian bowlers to chisel 120 runs & Stokes making a big 176 runs. Root returned to his captaincy duties. Roston Chase the West Indian offie picked up 5 wickets with his spin. England 469 for 9 declared with West Indies on 32 for 1 with 3rd days play washed off due to rain. Roach toiled hard & finally was rewarded with the wickets. Gabriel was wicketless and looked out of sorts. Joseph looked good in spurts
Former cricketers, Australian wicket keeper & captain, Barry Jarman passed away at age 84 & luckless South African left arm spinner in the apartheid era, Baboo Ismail Ebrahim who never got to play test matches passed away at age 73. Talking about the left arm spinner, he took the wickets of players, Aussie Greg Chappell & Mike Dennis of England, which brought the remark, that he was the master of flight & spin & had a great arm ball. In a practice match, he clean bowled the former great Australian batsman, Ian Redpath of the very first ball in a practice match. Former Aussie spinner Ashley Mallett & Ian Chappell ahd high praises for the bloke. What a pity, he could never play for South Africa due to apartheid.Cricket in
South Africa was played for a really good cause, Black Lives matter, called the Solidarity cup between 3 teams. The game was known as 3TC, Three team cricket. It was a innovative one with a different set of rules with only 12 overs for each team & the team that scored the maximum number of runs will win it & the winning team was captained by Ab De Villiers of Eagles 160 for 4, who got the gold, Kites led by Tenda Bavuma with 138 for 3 won the silver & the bronze went to Reeza Hendricks Kingfishers 113 for 5. It looked like cricket included in the Olympics. Notable performances All rounder Pretorius took 28 runs of an over from spinner Shamsi. Young pacer Coetzee showed his raw pace in his wickets. Another pacer Stuurman caught the eye with his bowling. Young and talented Kyle Verreyne carved a six over cover point, which has been done only by De Villers in the past. What made one wonder was how Verynee with 4 metal plates in his hand could do so. De Villiers & Markram were the half centurions.
There is a talk going on in circles that the Indian Premier league could be held in the UAE from September to November. That would be a great sight for cricket.
Archer who lost his spot in the 2nd test v Windies with a breach of biosecurity has been cleared to play in the 3rd test v England.
